Taking That First Step

Have you ever wanted to lose weight, but always stopped yourself as you didn't feel comfortable training in the gym or around people, or because you were subconcscious of who was watching you, who might be staring at you or who is laughing at you?

Yeah I know that feeling. I have been there myself. The mental barrier is so hard to overcome and to take that very first step can be daunting. It takes even more strength and courage to push pass any excuses, to make that change. It took me a while to get myself out of that front door. It wasn't easy, it took me time and patience to finally convince myself that 'I can do it'

I remember the first time I made the decision to lose weight, I wasn't comfortable wearing gym wear, so I wore baggy men's T-shirts and Joggers. I'd get as far as bottom of the stairs, put my trainers on, open the front door and then close it.

I felt as soon as I opened the front door, I couldn't breathe, panic set in, so I'd close the door and run upstairs and hide.

This process took me many months to overcome.

Eventually I decided I would do other activities, which didn't seem like I was exercising but helped me burn calories.

I included activities such as 20-40mins walking daily, 30mins gardening (filled the wheelbarrow with soil and reshaped the garden and re-potted plants, even dug out tree roots from the earth!

Eventually I found a new passion of growing my own vegetables, and fruits and flowers of course!

I found the daily walk helped me clear my mind and felt refreshed, it also helped me improve my cardiovascular system, I was breathing better, and more energetic, and also got to the point I would carry shopping home (approx 20mins walk back, 6-10kg per bag)

I then decided to create my own workouts at home and planned my own training. With a background knowledge in the fitness industry and clearly understanding how the fitness components work. It didn't take me long to get back into shape.

At one point in my life I did feel I will never be able to lose weight, but the will power and determination and the 'desire' to lose weight is all I needed to keep going and kept going.

Are you in the same boat and also struggling to take that very first step? It's not easy, but can be done!
